Eric Wright Group’s Health and Care division, and Glenholme Healthcare Group announced the establishment of a new joint venture (JV) with the aim of delivering 10-15 new care homes over five years from 2019. The JV focused their development and operating activities in Lancashire, Cumbria, Chester, Greater Manchester and Merseyside. The two partners had worked together to acquire Spiral Health’s interest in Bispham Gardens after Spiral Health fell into administration.
Bispham Gardens is for mature and older people with care needs looking to achieve a relaxing lifestyle and retirement. The 52-bed care home with its new 24 room expansion opened in early 2021. Their care staff are skilled in meeting specialist needs, including nursing, dementia and end-of-life care. All rooms are en-suite, and residents have the benefit of generous communal spaces such as numerous lounges and day rooms as well as a hair-dressing salon, library, public bar area, cinema and landscaped gardens. Residents are encouraged to personalise their rooms. The in-house chef uses fresh ingredients to prepare nutritious and enjoyable meals and snacks throughout the day. Morning coffee and afternoon tea are available in the bistros. In addition, those who would like to do some of their own cooking can use the bistros to do so. All care packages at Bispham Gardens are tailored to each resident’s personal needs, and the home maintains a programme of events and activities. The activities coordinator regularly arranges a wide range of opportunities, to get involved with, on both a personal and a social level. These include music evenings, pantomimes, seasonal fairs as well as a range of trips to local shops and attractions.
Christine Winstanley, director at Eric Wright Health and Care, explains: “This is a very exciting time for our two businesses to work more closely together. As the health and social care economy looks for new system enablers that are sustainable and cost effective, a partnership between a community interest company and an organisation wholly owned by a charity should be an ideal solution. Our involvement in taking on this existing facility and converting it into an intermediate and residential care facility will ensure that we continue to build on the legacy of Spiral Health’s service provision in Bispham, extending therapy and support to residential care for local people with a broad range of needs. We will operate the new facility as a best practice model for the sector and recruitment will begin in line with the build programme to ensure that we have the managerial, care and support staff in place for a planned opening date.”
The proposed scheme, which is expected to create 30 jobs, has garnered widespread local support. Paul Maynard, MP for Blackpool North & Cleveleys, said: “It’s essential that care provision evolves to meet the needs of local people and the refurbishment of Bispham Rehabilitation Centre as a nursing home with specialist provision will help to achieve this for local people.”
