Eric Wright Group’s Health and Care division and Glenholme Healthcare Group form a joint venture in 2019 with the aim of delivering between ten and fifteen new care homes over five years. Their focus is Lancashire, Cumbria, Chester, Greater Manchester and Merseyside. One of the first outcomes of this partnership is the acquisition of Spiral Health’s interest in Bispham Gardens after Spiral Health enters administration.

Bispham Gardens is designed for older people seeking both care and comfort in retirement. The 52-bed home is expanded by a further 24 rooms, opening in early 2021. It offers specialist nursing, dementia and end-of-life care. All bedrooms are en-suite and residents benefit from generous shared spaces including lounges, day rooms, a hairdressing salon, a library, a public bar, a cinema and landscaped gardens. Personalisation is encouraged, with residents able to make their rooms their own. Meals are freshly prepared on-site by an in-house chef, with morning coffee and afternoon tea served in the bistros. Those who wish to cook for themselves are able to use the bistro facilities.

Care at Bispham Gardens is tailored to individual needs. The home maintains a full programme of activities, coordinated to provide both social and personal opportunities. Events include music evenings, pantomimes, seasonal fairs and trips to local shops and attractions, ensuring residents remain connected to the wider community.

Christine Winstanley, director at Eric Wright Health and Care, describes the collaboration as an opportunity to combine sustainability with social value. She explains that a partnership between a community interest company and a charity-owned organisation offers a model for best practice in health and social care. She adds that taking on Bispham Gardens allows the continuation and extension of the legacy created by Spiral Health, while ensuring that therapy, support and residential care remain available to people in Blackpool with a wide range of needs.

The scheme is expected to create 30 new jobs and secures widespread local backing. Paul Maynard, MP for Blackpool North and Cleveleys, welcomes the development, noting that modernised provision at Bispham will ensure care services evolve to meet the needs of local residents.
