The Early Passion: Ronald Rostron
Ronald Rostron, born in the mid-1920s and a veteran of the Second World War, developed his love for fine engineering while serving overseas. Stationed in post-war Berlin, he acquired his first American car — a 1930s Cadillac V-12 — the start of a lifelong passion for the design and craftsmanship of the classic era. Over the years Ronald built an impressive private collection, focusing on elegant 1930s American marques such as Packard and Buick. A 2020 feature in the Motor City Packards club journal in the United States listed several gems from his garage:

1936 Packard 120 sedan
1936 Packard 120B convertible
1936 Packard 120B coupe
1936 Packard 1504 club sedan
1934 Buick 56S sport coupé
1934 Buick 56C convertible

Each car reflected not only an era of motoring artistry but Ronald’s meticulous care and pride in restoration. His collection became known locally as one of the most distinguished assemblages of vintage American vehicles in the region.

Carrying the Torch: Tony Rostron
Sadly, Ronald passed away on 21 March 2023 at the age of 97. But today his son Tony continues that heritage. A Lytham St Annes native, Tony is an active figure in the local classic-car community. Each year, at the Lytham Hall Autumn Classic Vehicle Show, Tony presents the Rostron Trophy — an award created in memory of his late father, celebrating craftsmanship and passion in classic motoring. The gesture captures the spirit of the family: respectful of history, yet always encouraging new generations to preserve these magnificent machines.

But Tony’s ties to the Fylde Coast extend beyond the showground. He has long been involved in the local business scene through Blackpool Bed Centre, a trusted name in comfort and home furnishings. Known for its friendly service and community focus, the business reflects the same traditional values that define the Rostrons’ approach to classic cars — quality, care, and pride in what you do.

Through their dedication, Ronald and Tony have helped ensure that the gleaming lines of pre-war Packards and Buicks still grace local shows, reminding everyone of a golden age of motoring. Their story is a testament to how passion — whether for cars, business, or community — can span generations and continue to bring people together.
