Lucy Fallon rose to prominence through her portrayal of Bethany Platt in the ITV soap opera Coronation Street, a role she played from 2015 to 2020, and again from 2023 onwards. Her powerful performance in the role earned her multiple prestigious awards, including two British Soap Awards, an Inside Soap Award, and a National Television Award. Born on 13 November 1995 in Blackpool, Lucy is the daughter of engineer Andrew Fallon and accountant Angela Fallon. She was raised in Cleveleys alongside her two older sisters, Rachel and Laura. From a very young age, Fallon showed a strong interest in the performing arts, beginning her training at the Barbara Jackson Theatre Arts Centre when she was just two years old. She continued her development in singing, dancing, and drama, eventually taking private drama lessons starting at eight years old. She also sat exams with the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA). Fallon attended Hodgson Academy before moving on to Blackpool Sixth Form College, where she excelled in BTEC Performing Arts, earning a Distinction Star and two Distinctions. Despite offers from prestigious institutions like the Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts and Arts Ed to study musical theatre, Fallon chose not to pursue them due to financial constraints.
Before landing her breakthrough role on Coronation Street, Fallon worked various part-time jobs, including at Subway, Next, New Look, and at Merrie England on Blackpool North Pier. She also appeared as a dancer in the pantomime Sleeping Beauty at the Blackpool Grand Theatre. Fallon’s big break came in 2015 when she was cast as Bethany Platt in Coronation Street. Although Bethany had previously been portrayed by younger actresses, Fallon, at 19, was cast in the role of the 14-year-old character. Her casting followed a controversy involving Katie Redford, the actress originally chosen for the role, who had lied about her age. While some critics initially questioned Fallon’s suitability for the part, particularly in terms of age, her performance was universally praised. Fallon’s portrayal of Bethany, especially during a harrowing grooming and sexual exploitation storyline, garnered significant attention and critical acclaim. Her work in this plot earned her the Best Actress award at the 2017 Inside Soap Awards, as well as the Outstanding Serial Drama Performance at the 2018 National Television Awards. She also won the Best Actress and Best Female Dramatic Performance awards at the 2018 British Soap Awards.
After leaving Coronation Street in 2020 to explore other opportunities, Fallon made her final appearance in the soap on 4 March 2020. However, in August 2023, it was announced that she would return to the show, with her comeback airing on New Year’s Eve 2023. Outside of her acting career, Fallon has demonstrated her versatility. She won the ITV Christmas special All Star Musicals in 2017, where she impressed viewers with her performance of “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina” from Evita. In November 2020, she took part in the reality miniseries Don’t Rock the Boat. She also starred in the 2021 Audible horror series Sour Hall, in which she played George, alongside Pearl Mackie. The series, set on a Yorkshire farm, tells the haunting story of a lesbian couple tormented by a Boggart. Additionally, Fallon appeared as Jazz in the BBC Radio 4 drama Jazz and Dice, and in 2023, she portrayed Molly Seagrim in the miniseries Tom Jones, a reimagining of Henry Fielding’s classic novel The History of Tom Jones, a Foundling. In 2024, she is set to appear in the ITVBe reality series Drama Queens.
