Chadwicks Timber Since 1896

Chadwicks Timber has a rich history that is deeply intertwined with the development of Blackpool and the wider Fylde Coast. Established in 1896, Chadwicks built its reputation over more than a century by providing high-quality materials and exceptional service to builders, tradespeople, and the local community. By 1956, the company had relocated to its iconic site on Mowbray Drive, where it became a cornerstone of Blackpool’s construction industry. Initially focused on timber, Chadwicks expanded over the decades into a multifaceted builders’ merchant with seven distinct departments. These included not only timber and sheet materials but also hardware, ironmongery, kitchens, bathrooms, and power tools, eventually offering a selection of over 10,000 products. The comprehensive range made it a trusted one-stop shop for professionals and DIY enthusiasts alike.

The company’s evolution continued under the ownership of Saint-Gobain, a global construction materials leader, which acquired Chadwicks in 2005. The acquisition brought significant investment and modernization to the Mowbray Drive branch, now part of the Gibbs & Dandy Group. A major refurbishment transformed the site, featuring a modernized exterior with new cladding, signage, and windows, and extensive internal upgrades. The kitchen showroom now boasts 17 display kitchens, showcasing styles from modern to traditional, along with top-of-the-line appliances and worktops. The joinery showroom has also been enhanced, featuring a wide selection of internal and external doors, flooring options, and custom cupboard doors. Chadwicks also integrated Blackpool Power Tools, which had been a staple in the area since 1985, further solidifying its status as a comprehensive supplier for builders and trade professionals. Employing 24 staff, the company continues to serve the Fylde Coast with the same commitment to quality and service that defined its early years. Today, though rebranded as Jewsons, the Mowbray Drive location remains a testament to Chadwicks’ enduring legacy in Blackpool’s industrial and community landscape.
