James Cartmell Gets Voice Role for DreamWorks

James Cartmell is an English actor known for his work in both theatre and voice acting. He gained recognition for his role in the West End production of Milked and became the voice of the titular character in the British animated series Where’s Waldo. Cartmell also voices Gilber Barker in the 2021 Netflix series Go, Dog. Go!.

Born in Lancashire, England, Cartmell attended Kirkham Grammar School and began pursuing acting and voice lessons in 2007. During his school years, he was actively involved in music and sports, competing in athletics at a competitive level with UK Athletics. He later joined the Lytham Academy of Theatre Arts (LATA), where he performed in the school’s 2017 production of Oliver!.

Cartmell made his West End debut in Milked, a play by Simon Longman, which was staged at the Arts Theatre in London. Following this, he portrayed the character of the Mind in Borderline Electra, written by Stevie Helps, at the Lowry in Manchester. In late 2019, he was cast as the voice of Wally in the Where’s Wally animated series by DreamWorks Animation Television.

In December 2020, it was announced that Cartmell would voice the character of Gilber in the Netflix animated series Go, Dog. Go!. He continued to expand his television presence with a guest appearance in Doctors, the BBC medical soap opera, where he played Jack Turner in November 2021. Cartmell returned to Doctors in September 2023, this time taking on the role of Henry Povall.
