Empowerment is a pioneering charity based in Blackpool, dedicated to serving marginalized communities across Blackpool and the Fylde coast. Formed in 2013 through the merger of Blackpool Advocacy and Lancaster and District Women’s Aid, the charity was established with a mission to amplify the voices of those who are often overlooked. With core values of kindness, justice, equality, and humanity, Empowerment strives to ensure that everyone they work with feels heard and respected.
Since deciding to focus on being a locally rooted charity in 2017, Empowerment has grown into a diverse network of services, driven by passionate individuals committed to supporting Blackpool’s most vulnerable. Their aim is to ensure that people’s needs are met with dignity and pride, and that those most at risk are empowered to make positive changes in their lives.
The charity offers support to adults, children, and young people, ensuring their rights are understood and upheld in decisions that impact their lives. Empowerment uses its experience to foster positive system change in Blackpool, helping local people navigate challenges and improve their quality of life. Among its services is Healthwatch Blackpool, part of a national network of over 150 local Healthwatch teams, which gives people a voice in healthcare decisions. They also run a Children’s IDVA (Independent Domestic Violence Advisor) service, offering emotional and practical support to children and young people affected by domestic abuse. In addition, Empowerment works with those affected by suicide and mental health challenges, providing a single point of access to connect individuals with local services and resources.
