Nigel Hanson Publishes His First Novel

Nigel Hanson lives on the Fylde Coast and published his first book Murder Mapped Out on 30 October 2022. It’s part of a series of three books, which are all available on Amazon. Aside from being a terrific writer, Nigel has had a great influence on Blackpool, both with the Town Centre Forum and Blackpool BID.

MURDER MAPPED OUT

On his stroll through the estate grounds, his beagle alongside him, Selwyn sniffed the air and looked about with a rapturous smile. ‘A good wife, if a bit spirited, a gorgeous son, good staff, all this – and, of course, you.’ He stooped to pat the dog. ‘What more could a chap ask for?’

Welcome to idyllic Wisstingham Hall and the world of Commander Selwyn Fitzgerald, where all is not quite as it seems. Selwyn’s hopes that he will finally discover his family’s long-lost treasure are plunged into disarray with the discovery of an old map and deed. Little does he realise that this find will expose him and others to villainy, betrayal – and murder. Whilst the unwitting Selwyn battles with tragic personal loss – and the local council – dark forces plot his downfall. As the body count increases, can the commander trust his greedy son, his temperamental estate manager and his protégé, Sebastian? Or, as he fears, is he entirely alone in trying to escape a dangerous web of intrigue and even death? In this sparkling new novel, the first of the The Wisstingham Mysteries, Nigel Hanson introduces a cast of endearing, humorous and sometimes sinister characters. They will change your ideas about tranquil country life for ever!

MURDEROUS PURSUIT

At the entrance stood a man in a distinctive straw hat that had seen better days. His round face bore a full salt-and-pepper beard and deep-set eyes which briefly scanned the room before he made his way to the bar.

Welcome to Archie Fox, a man who’ll bring chaos and death to Wisstingham Hall.
Desperate to recover Wisstingham Estates’ embezzled money, Commander Selwyn Fitzgerald and protégé Sebastian rush to France, unaware that murderous forces are closing in on them.
Their encounter with an engaging but wily villain and wanted man only increases their danger.
Meanwhile, in Selwyn’s absence, the scheming council leader embarks on a strategy which will ruin the estate. And the arrival in Wisstingham of a ghost from the past comes to haunt Selwyn and his ancestral home… As the villains converge and events culminate in a deadly climax, how can Selwyn and Sebastian possibly survive? In this second book in The Wisstingham Mysteries series, Nigel Hanson masterfully engages the reader in the intriguing and exciting world of Wisstingham with its lovable, loathsome, colourful and compelling characters.

THE HANGING COMMITTEE

A spate of seemingly unrelated murders shatters the peace and tranquillity of Wisstingham as the baffled, newly-appointed Chief Inspector Stone and his team struggle to discover motives and murderers.

Meanwhile, at Wisstingham Hall, Commander Selwyn Fitzgerald’s ever-thwarted search for the family treasure barely gains momentum before his beloved fiancé, ex-mayor Miriam, suffers a spate of attempts on her life. This leaves the formidable librarian Amanda to strive alone in trying to organise Wisstingham’s first arts and crafts festival, to coincide with the opening of the Hall to the public. To add to her woes, the arrival of a vengeful Frenchman sparks off even more chaos and death. Life for Amanda would be so much less stressful if fiancé Sebastian would recover from his depressive episode and the various festival committee members didn’t stop disappearing or dying horribly. As a tangled web of deceit, intrigue and revenge threatens to engulf the Hall’s residents, how can Amanda and Sebastian possibly survive the deadly peril it will bring?
