Lisa Kudrow from ‘Friends’ in Blackpool to Film Netflix Series

Feel Good is a British comedy-drama TV series that blends romance with personal growth, created by Mae Martin and Joe Hampson. It centres around Mae, portrayed by Mae Martin as a fictionalised version of themselves, and George, played by Charlotte Ritchie, Mae’s girlfriend. The show is a semi-autobiographical narrative that explores Mae’s journey with love, addiction, and identity. The first season, consisting of six episodes, debuted on Channel 4 in the UK on 18 March 2020, with all episodes made available for streaming on All 4 shortly after. Internationally, Netflix released the show on 19 March 2020. The series was so well received that, independent of Channel 4, Netflix renewed it for a second and final season, which dropped on 4 June 2021.

Set in modern-day Manchester, the show follows Mae, a Canadian comedian, who meets George at a comedy club where Mae performs. As their romance develops, George learns that Mae is a recovering drug addict, and this part of Mae’s past becomes a challenge for their relationship. To support Mae, George encourages her to attend a Narcotics Anonymous meeting, where Mae starts connecting with others in recovery. The series highlights Mae’s struggles with addiction and the strain it places on her relationship with George, especially as George grapples with coming out to her friends and family about their relationship. In the second season, Mae’s career begins to take off, but they also confront deep-seated trauma after being diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), adding another layer of complexity to their relationship and personal growth. The series is both humorous and poignant, blending lighthearted moments with a raw, honest exploration of identity and recovery.
