Beaverbrooks, the family-owned jeweller long associated with Blackpool and the Fylde Coast, traces its origins to 1919 when three brothers—Isaac, Harry and Maurice Adlestone—founded the company. The brothers, originally from Manchester, began by selling fine jewellery and gifts in Belfast before establishing their business model on a foundation of trust, craftsmanship, and close community ties. Their move into the North West of England after the Second World War proved pivotal: in 1946 they based their main operations in St Annes, just south of Blackpool, from which the company would grow into one of Britain’s most respected jewellery retailers.

The company’s enduring link with Blackpool has remained strong. Its store on Church Street continues to serve as one of its key regional outlets, while its headquarters in St Annes anchors the business in its Lancashire heartland. Over more than a century of operation, Beaverbrooks has combined commercial success with a pronounced sense of social responsibility, qualities that have defined its reputation both locally and nationally.

Now celebrating 105 years of continuous family heritage, Beaverbrooks operates eighty-five stores across the United Kingdom and employs more than twelve hundred colleagues. The current Chairman, Mark Adlestone—grandson of founder Isaac—has upheld the family’s emphasis on integrity, employee welfare, and philanthropy. Under his leadership the company has become recognised not only for the quality of its products but also for its corporate culture. Beaverbrooks is one of only two companies to have appeared in the Sunday Times list of the “100 Best Companies to Work For” for twenty consecutive years, earning a Lifetime Achievement Award for maintaining a top-ten position over five successive years. In 2023 it was named the United Kingdom’s third-best large company and the top retailer to work for.

Beyond business, Beaverbrooks has established itself as a major contributor to community life on the Fylde Coast. The company created Beaverbrooks House on Newton Drive in Blackpool, a hub for local charitable and welfare organisations, and sponsors the town’s annual ten-kilometre Fun Run along the Promenade. Since 2000, it has donated more than twenty-four million pounds to over seven hundred and fifty charities, a record that stands as a testament to the family’s continuing commitment to philanthropy and social good.

From its beginnings as a small family venture to its present status as a leading national jeweller, Beaverbrooks has remained rooted in the values of honesty, family, and community that first defined it—values deeply intertwined with the civic and social fabric of Blackpool and the Fylde Coast.

The words OLD POST OFFICE BUILDINGS can be clearly seen at the top of the Beaverbrooks building if you step back far enough away.
