The Forget Me Not Dementia Café was founded by Jenny Fitzsimmons and officially opened its doors on 23 March 2022. Jenny had cared for both her mother and her husband, each living with dementia, and understood how demanding and often heartbreaking that journey could be. From struggling to secure timely diagnoses to navigating the complexities of the NHS and social care systems, she experienced first-hand the pressures faced by carers, often while managing her own health and the effects of ageing. The most difficult part of her journey had been the isolation, which motivated her to turn her experience into a source of help for others.
Forget Me Not Dementia Café quickly became more than a venue. It grew into a warm and welcoming place where those living with dementia, along with their families, friends and carers, could come together and feel understood. Each gathering was carefully designed to bring joy, encourage conversation and create a sense of belonging. Through music, shared smiles and the simple comfort of coffee and company, the café created moments that truly mattered for everyone who came through its doors.
