The company has a rich history dating back to 1934 and has since gained a reputation for delivering high quality construction projects throughout the North of England, operating from its three regional offices in Blackpool, Manchester and York. The company was founded by Frank Parkinson under the name of ‘F Parkinson & Son’ located on Elizabeth Street in Blackpool.
The company began as a family-run business, focusing on local construction projects. Over the years, it expanded its operations and expertise, undertaking various refurbishment, extension, and new build schemes. Today, F Parkinson Ltd operates from regional offices in Blackpool, Manchester, and York, delivering projects ranging from small works to those valued up to £10 million. It has been involved in several significant projects, including:
Devonshire Road Primary School: The original two-storey Victorian building was destroyed by a fire caused by an arson attack. The school’s exemplar design is focused around a bee-hive concept which provides classrooms and play decks on the same level and a commitment to sustainability – a roof garden, complete with pond and weather station is on the second floor for outdoor science and environmental studies.
Blackpool Lifeboat Station: Constructed the new lifeboat station, which was formally handed over to the RNLI in September 1998.
The Blackpool Tower: Undertook restoration and refurbishment works on this iconic landmark.
AKS Junior School: As part of the recent merger between two private teaching facilities; Arnold School and KEQM School, a programme of building work was initiated to increase the capacity of KEQM for the Arnold pupils. The project was undertaken as a multi-phased contract. The phases comprised of the demolition of an existing single storey standalone nursery building, the new build construction of a two form entry junior school including nursery facilities, external play areas and a Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) within a courtyard.
In April 2025, F Parkinson was appointed as the main contractor for a new business centre in Blackpool – The Robinson, a project led by Blackpool Council and supported by Cassidy + Ashton architects. F Parkinson has also been recognised for its commitment to excellence, winning the SME of the Year award at the North West Regional Construction Awards in 2023.
