Lorraine Beavers is a British Labour Party politician who has served as the Member of Parliament for Blackpool North and Fleetwood since the general election on 4 July 2024. She won the seat by defeating the incumbent Conservative MP, Paul Maynard, with a majority of 4,647 votes. Her victory was part of Labour’s broader success in the election, marking a shift in political representation for the constituency.
Before entering Parliament, Beavers had a long-standing career in local politics. She was the deputy leader of the Labour opposition group on both Wyre Borough Council and Lancashire County Council, where she was actively involved in community issues and local governance. Her deep connection to Fleetwood, where she grew up, made her a well-known and respected figure in the area. Her political work focused on advocating for better local services, infrastructure improvements, and support for working-class communities. As an MP, Beavers has quickly established herself as an active participant in parliamentary debates and legislative processes. In November 2024, she voted in favour of the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill, which proposes the legalisation of assisted suicide under strictly regulated circumstances. This decision reflects her stance on personal choice and dignity in end-of-life care, an issue that has sparked considerable public debate.
Throughout her career, Beavers has been committed to engaging with her constituents, maintaining a strong presence in the community and on social media, where she regularly shares updates on her work. She is known for her accessibility and dedication to addressing local concerns, whether related to healthcare services, transport links, or economic development. In her personal life, Beavers is a mother of two children. She balances her political career with family life and remains deeply connected to the values and experiences of the people she represents. Her election as MP for Blackpool North and Fleetwood signifies a new chapter in her political career, with a focus on delivering positive change for her constituents.
