The Poulton Health and Fitness Centre, located in Poulton-le-Fylde, was built in 1974 as part of the original Poulton Leisure Centre complex, which combined both wet-side and dry-side facilities for community sport and recreation. The dry-side area offered a forty-three-station gym and an eight-metre by fifteen-metre exercise studio, while the wet-side facilities included a three-lane, twenty-metre heated swimming pool and a separate spa area.
Now operated by the YMCA under the name YMCA Poulton, the centre continues to serve as one of the town’s key leisure amenities. It welcomes visitors of all ages and abilities, offering inclusive access through a ramped entrance, adapted changing areas, and pool features such as a hoist and graduated steps to ensure safe entry into the water. The pool provides space for casual swimming, low-impact fitness sessions, and children’s swimming lessons, with a viewing area for parents and spectators overlooking the pool. Light refreshments are available from vending facilities within the building.
The centre’s operations have evolved with modern technology, enabling users to plan and book sessions through the YMCA Y:Active mobile app, which provides up-to-date information on timetables, activities, and availability. Alternatively, bookings and enquiries can be made directly with the leisure centre by telephone on 01253 891629.
For more than half a century, the Poulton Health and Fitness Centre has remained at the heart of the local community, reflecting the town’s ongoing commitment to health, wellbeing, and accessible sport for all residents.
