Revoe Library First Opens its Doors

Revoe Library, has a rich history that reflects the area’s development and community spirit. The library was constructed on the former site of Revoe Farm, with its establishment marking a significant milestone in the community’s cultural evolution. In July 2004, Revoe Library celebrated its centenary, commemorating 100 years of service to the local population. The centenary festivities included history workshops where attendees dressed in Victorian attire, created commemorative bookmarks, and engaged with antique toys, highlighting the library’s enduring role in community enrichment. The library is less than a minute’s walk from Revoe School.

This plaque from Blackpool Civic Trust hangs outside the Revoe Library.

The plaque above also hangs near the library’s entrance and commemorates footballing giant Frank Swift, who used to go to Revoe School when he was growing up in Blackpool.

Beyond its primary function as a repository of books and information, Revoe Library has served as a pivotal community hub. It has hosted various activities and events, fostering a sense of unity and belonging among residents. The library’s commitment to community engagement is further exemplified by its involvement in local initiatives, such as the Revoe Masterplan—a 25-year vision aimed at rejuvenating the neighbourhood and enhancing public spaces, including areas surrounding the library.

The library’s significance is also reflected in its architectural presence. Located at the junction of Central Drive and Grasmere Road, the building stands as a testament to the area’s heritage and serves as a landmark for residents and visitors alike. In essence, Revoe Library’s history is intertwined with the social and cultural fabric of Blackpool. From its origins on the site of a former farm to its current role as a cherished community centre, the library continues to adapt and serve the evolving needs of the Revoe district and beyond.
