Sonny Flood, born on 18 November 1989 in Blackpool, was educated at Rossall School near Fleetwood, where he excelled academically. In 2006, he achieved ten GCSEs, all graded A or A*, followed by four A grades at AS level in English Literature, History, Media Studies, and Philosophy in 2007. The following year, he attained an A in English Literature and a B in History at A2 level, opting to focus on just two subjects to balance his studies with his acting commitments on the Channel 4 soap opera Hollyoaks. A devoted Blackpool FC supporter, he appeared on Sky Sports’ Soccer AM in September 2009 as part of the show’s ‘Fans of the Week’ segment.
Flood’s acting career began in 2001 when he made a minor appearance in an episode of Cold Feet, playing the role of David. He had another small role in 2003 in an episode of Heartbeat, portraying Dean Farley. His first major television role came in 2005 when he was cast as Josh Ashworth in Hollyoaks. His popularity in the show led to appearances in the Hollyoaks Hunks calendar in both 2009 and 2010.
In February 2010, as part of a cast reshuffle led by new producer Paul Marquess, Flood was removed from Hollyoaks along with 15 other actors. However, he successfully negotiated for his character to remain on the show beyond the departure of his on-screen family. He later reprised his role as Josh Ashworth for a two-episode return in May 2012.
Following his time on Hollyoaks, Flood appeared in BBC One’s Casualty on 4 December 2010, playing a young cyclist whose leg was broken in an attack. He then starred as Jez Field in the BBC daytime drama Doctors, which aired on 28 February 2011.
