Stanley Infant and Junior Schools Merge

See Location On Map

Stanley Primary School first opened in September 2006 after the infant and junior schools in the Stanley ward of Blackpool merged. That amalgamation created a single school for children aged 4 to 11, under one leadership and one site. The name “Stanley” comes from its location in the Stanley area of Blackpool, chosen to reflect its service to that local community. In its early years the school worked to unify staff and resources from the two former schools, establishing systems to track pupil progress and raising standards. A Facebook group for the original Stanley schools includes a post from a person who attended the infants school from 1961 to 1968, indicating the school was in operation at least by the early 1960s. However, the exact date when the infants school first opened is not known to Blackpool Timeline.

Leadership evolved over time, and on 1 April 2024 Stanley Primary converted to academy status, joining the Synergy Education Trust as one of its founder schools. Becoming part of the Trust enabled shared vision, resources and community support across schools in the Blackpool and Fylde Coast area. In inspection reports following its merger, Stanley Primary had been judged satisfactory overall but improving. It had been commended for its strong behaviour, caring staff, good personal development among pupils, and a broad curriculum including French, music and physical education. The school also had a Foundation Stage (reception) provision that was rated good, with pupils making strong progress from low starting points.

Over time the school keeps refining its values and community ethos. It has maintained a focus on partnership with parents and the community, and on providing a supportive, inclusive environment. Through its involvement in the Synergy Education Trust, Stanley Primary continued to adapt and evolve with changing educational standards and expectations.
