Founded by <strong data-start=\"201\" data-end=\"220\">Alicia Cottrell<\/strong>, the school offered lessons in ballet, tap, and modern dance, nurturing hundreds of local children who would go on to perform on stage at festivals and community events across the Fylde Coast.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"417\" data-end=\"944\">Alicia Cottrell\u2019s influence on dance in the area was profound. Known for her dedication and exacting standards, she also founded the <strong data-start=\"550\" data-end=\"584\">Lytham St Annes Dance Festival<\/strong>, which became an important fixture in the region\u2019s cultural calendar, drawing dancers and audiences from across Lancashire. Her school became synonymous with the growing popularity of dance in St Annes during the mid-20th century, offering a space where students could express themselves artistically while developing confidence, discipline, and stagecraft.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"946\" data-end=\"1361\">Among Cottrell\u2019s pupils was <strong data-start=\"974\" data-end=\"995\">Deirdre Middleton<\/strong>, who began her training at Alicia\u2019s studio before going on to a professional career in dance. She is now the Principal of <strong data-start=\"1118\" data-end=\"1148\">DATS (Dance at the Smithy)<\/strong>, a respected dance and theatre school based in Bramhall \u2014 continuing her mentor\u2019s legacy of training and performance. After training with Alicia and later at the prestigious Loretto Ballet School in Southport, Barbara went on to perform professionally before founding <strong data-start=\"1634\" data-end=\"1658\">Kirkham Dance Centre<\/strong>, later renamed <strong data-start=\"1674\" data-end=\"1710\">Rainbow Dance and Theatre School<\/strong>, which has inspired and trained generations of young dancers.
